About the incoming Lt. Gov., Alice Mae Britt

 

Alice Mae Britt is often described as a “servant leader,” who actively participates while compassionately helping others.  A veteran in the philanthropic community, Britt arrived at Network of Community Ministries, Inc. on July 2, 2007 to begin her responsibilities as Chief Executive Officer.  In that role, she currently manages over 600 volunteers responsible for emergency, medical and senior services in North Dallas .  

Britt’s exemplary record in nonprofit management, program services and fund acquisition spans over 19 years.  Prior to Network, Inc., she was Chief Executive Officer of the Todd M. Beamer Foundation, d/b/a Heroic Choices (Princeton, New Jersey), created by Lisa Beamer following her husband’s death on United Flight 93.  Other roles throughout her nonprofit career include working for Ser National, Inc. (Las Colinas, Texas ), the National American Red Cross ( Washington , D.C. ), Heifer International ( Little Rock , Arkansas ), and World Neighbors, Inc. ( Oklahoma City , Oklahoma ).  Britt’s early professionalism was in higher education as an instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, senior administrator and adjunct at six colleges/universities.  

Britt has served on several committees, task forces, and boards at the local, state and national levels.  She values most her involvement with civic organizations because of her personal and unwavering commitment to impoverished children and their families.  A native of Murfreesboro , North Carolina , she holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University ( Greensboro , N.C. ), a Master’s of Arts from California State University ( Sacramento , CA ) and a Certificate of Study in Modern Poetry from Exeter College , University of Oxford ( England ).  Britt also is certified for life as an educator by the State of Louisiana and has numerous certificates in various areas of nonprofit management.  

The loves of her life are her children:  Tasashama, 35, Brandon, 29 and Steven, 15.
