Announcements

Lt. Governor’s Message:  March 6, 2010

Dear Division #37 Leadership:

Please find attached the agenda for this coming Saturday’s meeting, March 6th.

We will host the Sophomore of the Year and his parents from the Kiwanis Club of McKinney , President Kent Paluga.  Ray Beall will present the Sophomore of the Year with a $500 Savings Bond, and we will hear his remarks of appreciation.

Since April 3rd is the Division Council meeting that we will be at the Dallas Children’s Medical Center , the TX-OK District function of affirming Mr. Norm Dotson as incoming 2010-2011 Lt. Governor needs to occur this coming Saturday.  Norm already holds the title of Lt. Governor-elect.  TX-OK requires that we submit the forms indicating Norm’s election officially by April 15th.  Please see the attached guidance we are to follow.  I will email Norm the forms to submit also to the TX-OK District following Saturday.  Norm is a winner and will be phenomenal!  WE NEED A QUORUM, SO PLEASE COME.

This upcoming Saturday, the host clubs are Plano and Rockwall.  Please provide the food for the morning, and I will check on more coffee.  The Presidents are on the program.

We also hope to have the balloons there to close this meeting for Division #37.  I have been blown away by Division# 37 on this Quarter’s Service Project---the largest # of coloring books and crayons ever (at least that’s what I think-smiles). There aren’t enough words to shout out about Mike as Chair.  Excellence is his signature.

OK.  Take Care.  See you Saturday Morning.  Warmly, Alice Mae

Lt. Governor’s Message:  October, 2009

We brought the bags of food into the lobby where three children and their mother sat waiting to retrieve it and hike back to the bus stop.  As we neared them with the food, one of the two little boys stood and rushed forward to put his hands under a bag.  As he took the weight of the bag, he instantly began scanning the content when his eyes caught sight of a package of hot dogs. He said, “hot dogs” in an excited shout, then dropped to the floor and began announcing to his siblings every item of food.  They rushed forward to see.  Their mother, with a nervous and embarrassed smile, told him to get up so they could get to the bus stop.  As the little boy went out the door carrying the bag of food, we heard him ask affirmatively to his mother, “We’re going to have hot dogs tonight, right mom?”

I have witnessed this kind of occurrence in my lobby often since I have been back in North Texas, and I know from having visited already Division 37’s clubs that my fellow Kiwanians are cognizant also of this kind of suffering and have been on the frontline of such priorities for children for a long, long time.

The Division 37 Lt. Governors, Club Officers, and Kiwanis Club Members, past and present, have reached out to children and their families with deep compassion and care.  Over many years, the dedication within Division 37 has fostered a united strength across our club locations.  During the upcoming Kiwanis Year (2009-2010), we will continue, together, that profound commitment to others and a strong legacy of service.

We begin this Kiwanis Year with three overarching goals:

I.                    Focus on the basics that children need for healthy growth and development—food, shelter, clothing, education and healthcare

II.                 Deliver to children truly rewarding experiences---with a special emphasis on the physically challenged within our communities

III.               Become continuous ambassadors---speak wherever possible and as often as possible for children who are counting on us to engage more concerned people

In Division 37, this is our time to grow, one to one.  Absolutely every individual with whom we speak on behalf of a child will understand the importance.  He or she immediately will share in the discovery we already have made, that the height of esteem is service above self.  The existence of Kiwanis International has made it really easy for that individual we will meet to immediately join in this phenomenal effort.

We just need to tell that individual (1.) how significantly he will help, (2.) how to join in with all of us, and (3.) how to fit it well inside of his own life because, first and foremost, he must take good care himself and his own family.

I am excited for children yet to know how much we deeply care about them, and I am excited to meet the future Kiwanians who will lend that helping hand for them.

I look forward to a positive Kiwanis Year filled with joy and happiness, fun and positive support within our Division.  See you soon.

Warmly, Alice Mae Britt, 2009-2010 Lt. Governor
