Kiwanis Division 37

Key Club Lt. Gov. Doris Lee

Announcements

Hi everyone! I'm Doris Lee, the Key Club lieutenant governor for Division 37N. I am currently a senior at McKinney North High School . I have been in Key Club for 3 years so far, my previous year serving as president. Division 37N covers the North Dallas area, including Allen High School , McKinney North High School , McKinney Boyd High School , Plano West Senior High School , Plano East Senior High School , Plano Senior High School , Berkner High School , Shepton High School , and Frisco High School .

My main division wide goal is to improve K-Relations, be it between Kiwanis and Key Club, or between 2 Key Clubs. I find that the relationship between Kiwanis and Key Club can be more out of obligation than sheer enjoyment. Key Clubbers join the Kiwanis lunch, listen to a few announcements and stories, then leave. The Kiwanis advisor dutifully attends Key Club board meetings and general meetings. To be active in each other's clubs is indeed praiseworthy, but do we truly connect? We see each other so often but we don't grow friendships. The members of Key Club and the members of Kiwanis may have vast differences, but this should not deter us from getting to know each other. Kiwanis and Key Club social, anybody?

During my junior year as president, I sometimes ran dry on ideas and felt quite frustrated. PCM's were very encouraging, being able to talk to other presidents and find out what was happening in their clubs. Officers of this division will have their own respective networks, so that they may find support and inspiration when they need it. Interclubs amongst Key Clubs are also strongly encouraged as some members don't quite grasp the internationality of Key Club until they meet other Key Clubbers.

My goal for the 37N Key Clubs individually is a stronger emphasis on service. Key Club is an amazingly organized club- don't get me wrong. But sometimes, I find that we focus more on meetings, procedures, and bureaucracy than the service itself. A government is created to serve a purpose, not purpose a government. All our procedures maintain organization within Key Club, but procedures are merely a means. Service is the end. It is the quintessential existence of the club.

To both Key Clubbers and Kiwanians: as Lt. Governor, I am always willing to help you in any way possible. Email is the most efficient way to reach me as I regularly check it: doris_lee24@sbcglobal.net. Feel free to update me about your club, vent about your frustrations, ask questions, give suggestions, or simply say hi.

Key Club Fall Training Conference will be 9am -12:15pm on Sat, Sept 27 at Allen First Presbyterian Church
